Coloma Township's Open Hours Are: 9am-4pm Mon.-Fri.

ZONING AND LAND USE::

Coloma Township is fully zoned. Please check with the Zoning Administrator to make sure you are in compliance with appropriate zoning before you commence a project. Special Land Use Permits and Rezoning may be requested from the Planning Commission. There are fees charged for these services.

PROPERTY DIVISIONS::

Under newly enacted State law and Township Ordinance, all property divisions must be reviewed and approved by the Township prior to the division of any property within the Township. Applications may be picked up at the Township Hall and questions may be directed to the Supervisor. Application fees vary according to the number of divisions and no split property may legally be sold until approval is made. In addition, if the divisions or property are on a private road, it may require compliance with the newly adopted Private Road Ordinance. Please call the Township Hall. 

GARBAGE, RUBBISH, ABANDONED VEHICLES AND DANGEROUS BUILDINGS::

Concerns about accumulating garbage or rubbish, abandoned or junk vehicles, dangerous and deteriorating buildings or other concerns should be directed to the Township Hall where your concern will be directed to the appropriate enforcement authority.

SEWER AVAILABILITY AND HOOK-UP::

Public sewer is available in areas of the Townships around the lakes. Sewer hook-up is mandatory if within 200 feet of the public sewer. New expansion areas are being constructed in 2000 are along certain areas of Becht and Defield Roads and Ryno Road near I-94. Please check with the Township Hall regarding where and when these areas will become available. Additional expansion of the system is being considered. Your input and concerns should be directed to the Planning Commission and Township Board about possible future expansion needs and areas.

BURNING PERMITS::

Coloma Charter Township adopted an Outdoor Burning Ordinance on October 22, 2003.  This ordinance took effect on November 29, 2003.    Burn Permits can be obtained at the Coloma Township Police Department.

VOTER REGISTRATION::

The Township Clerk and Office will be glad to assist you if you are a new voter or if your registration has changed.

DOG LICENSES AND ANIMAL CONTROL::

The Township Office issues Dog Licenses from December 1st to February 28th.  Berrien County Animal Control can be
contacted at 269-927-5648 in regards to Animal Control issues.

CEMETERY::

Coloma Township, in cooperation with the City of Coloma, own and operate the public cemetery. Reduced rates are available for Township residents. Please contact the Coloma City Hall for information.

BUILDING PERMITS::

Permits are required prior to commencement of construction on all buildings within the Township. Applications may be filled out at the Township Hall and the Building Inspector will contact you regarding your project. Note: The application does not allow you to commence construction until the actual permit has been issued by the Inspector. 

DEMOLITION PERMITS::

Demolition Permit fees are only $1.00. Permits are required before removing or demolishing any structure or building. The purpose of the permit is mainly to advise the Township Assessor that there may have been a change in the value of your property. Proper knowledge of demolitions and other property value changes may help to eliminate appeals and protests to the Board of Review.
